Pressure is intensifying on Michael Carrick after a shambolic 4-1 defeat away to Como in the Champions League. Manchester United were second-best in all departments, and the head coach clashed with both Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha while in Italy, as rumours that he may lose his job circulate. United's challenging fixture list continues with Bournemouth on Sunday, as Carrick desperately requires three points. United have endured five matches without a victory in the Premier League, placing them 13th in the table, closer to the drop zone than to the Champions League positions.

He has previously been backed by the INEOS hierarchy, but multiple candidates are ready to step in if the trigger is pulled. Meanwhile, United are already working on future transfers to address significant gaps in the squad.

Here, Express Sport takes a look at the latest news concerning United...

Transfer U-turn performed

United are believed to be prepared to reignite their pursuit of Newcastle's Lewis Hall. There was frustration during the summer when the club were unable to secure a replacement - or at minimum an alternative - to Luke Shaw.

United targeted Hall but decided against pursuing him further, with Newcastle reluctant to part ways, subsequently securing the full-back on a fresh long-term contract. Nevertheless, according to The i Paper, United will launch another attempt to sign the 22-year-old, who is reportedly receptive to relocating to Old Trafford.

United are also keen on another left-back, Adrien Truffert, who is widely expected to depart Bournemouth next summer amid considerable interest in the French defender.

Conditions for Antonio Conte to join

Antonio Conte, a frontrunner to succeed Carrick should United opt for a managerial change, has reportedly outlined his demands amid interest from Juventus. The Italian giants are the other club being linked with Conte, who has been without a club since departing Napoli in the summer.

According to TMW Radio in Italy, however, Conte is seeking specific guarantees 'for the next few seasons' from Juventus before returning to the Turin club, which he managed between 2011 and 2014. Should those assurances, believed to concern squad reconstruction, not be forthcoming, he would likely favour a move to United instead.

Conte recently gave an interview suggesting his next role could be with a fallen giant, with both United and Juventus fitting that description. He told The Athletic: "There are many clubs that have somewhat lost sight of their history.

"I'd like to go to one of these clubs to dust off that history and make it shine once more. Clubs where there's pressure, where, ultimately, you know full well that you're not going there just to take part, but to compete."
