A Premier League footballer was stopped by police after he was seen walking with bow and arrows.
Newcastle United's Bosnian full-back Amar Dedic was caught by police carrying a weapon.
A member of the police contacted the force after spotting two men with bow and arrows walking close to a reservoir, a few miles outside of Newcastle city, on Wednesday.
Officers caught up with Dedic and a friend in a vehicle in the Hallow Hill area, after a number of police units were dispatched, as first reported by the Daily Mail.
Officers later satisfied themselves that there was no threat to the public and the weapon was for recreational use only, but inquiries continue.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 1.55pm (on Wednesday), we received a report of two men carrying a bow and arrows while walking along a track by the reservoir on Military Road in the Harlow Hill area.
“Officers attended and subsequently stopped a vehicle in the Darras Hall area and seized a bow and arrows.
“At this stage, it is understood they were for recreational use and there was no threat to the public.
“Inquiries are ongoing.”
The 24-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina international joined Newcastle from Benfica in the summer for a reported £29.5 million.
