Report card: Jets lose 38-33 to Raiders in Week 8
New York Jets running back Braelon Allen (0) and New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith (7) celebrate after a touchdown as the New York Jets play Las Vegas Raiders in a week 8 NFL football game at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026, in East Rutherford, NJ.

The New York Jets suffered their third-straight loss, this time it was a 38-33 defeat at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders. The loss puts their record at 2-6 and basically ends their season in October for the second straight year. The Raiders snapped a four game losing streak and are now 4-4.

The Jets put up 439 yards of total offense in this game, but were brutal in the red zone and the defense had an abysmal day. The clock is officially ticking on head coach Aaron Glenn's tenure as head coach as the Jets lost two straight games to teams riding lengthy losing streaks.

Here is Jets Wire's report card for Week 8 against the Raiders:

Passing Offense: B+

It's tough to really place blame on Geno Smith for this game as he finished with 290 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Adonai Mitchell had his best game as a Jet with seven receptions, 142 yards and a touchdown. Fans can't really complain about Garrett Wilson's usage this week as he led the team with 12 targets, but caught six of them for 83 yards. Omar Cooper Jr. after two straight 100 yard receiving games had no receptions on the afternoon. The only criticism for Smith would be on his interception as he threw a hail mary on the Jets final drive when he clearly had time for a few plays to get the team in the end zone.

Rushing Offense: A

Braelon Allen had another terrific day running the football with 147 yards and a touchdown. That is his third 100 yard game in his last four and there is no way you can keep him on the sideline when Breece Hall returns from his calf injury. Allen is now a Top 15 running back in the league and after yet another tiresome cryptic tweet from Hall regarding God's plan, it's fair to wonder if he will be moved by next week's trade deadline.

Passing Defense: F

It was a terrible day for the Jets pass rush as Kurt Cousins threw three touchdowns and Brock Bowers caught two of them to go along with his 92 yards receiving. It was another week without an interception and the Jets only had one sack from Will McDonald. It's somewhat alarming that Nahshon Wright, who led the league last year with five interceptions, remains a healthy inactive when his ability to force turnovers is sorely needed.

Rushing Defense: C

The Raiders ground game didn't really hurt the Jets too much on Sunday and for the shot that Ashton Jeanty took at the defensive line, the former first-round pick only had two carries for nine yards. Mike Washington led the Raiders with 83 yards on the ground and Vegas finished with under 100 yards rushing as a team. For a unit that was without T'Vondre Sweat, that's a pretty good day overall. However, the defensive line still struggles to generate any pressure on opposing quarterbacks and this week was no different.

Special Teams: C

Jason Sanders was excellent today making all four of his field goal attempts, although none were from long distance. However, allowing Dylan Laube to return the ensuing kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown after the Jets took the lead was a terrible look and in a game that was decided by one possession, we could be having a different conversation about this game if they prevent that touchdown.

Coaching: D

This loss falls squarely on Glenn and in all honesty, while I'm not much of an advocate of firing a head coach during the season, owner Woody Johnson would be justified after another bad game against a bad team. You can't blame Reich for this loss as the offense had 437 total yards and kept them in this game. It was Glenn's terrible defense that sealed the team's third straight loss. It is also a flat out joke that not only did Miami get their first win of the season last week against Glenn, the Raiders and their first-year head coach Klint Kubiak snap a four-game losing streak against him as well.

With each week, Glenn looks more and more like a fool and if you say that calling plays is your "superpower", you better be The Avengers each and every week on the sideline. But, Glenn's defense melted down in the second half after being up by nine points and has only one interception in the team's last 25 games.

Perhaps Woody Johnson needs to sell the team. Perhaps the Jets need to build a new stadium and get out of MetLife, a place that has provided more embarrassing moments than positive ones. Firing the head coach and starting this process all over again is not enough. After another loss against a team they should have beat, it's pretty clear that something drastic needs to be done as it doesn't look like the Jets organization will be good anytime soon.
