Arch Manning has proven that he can carry the Texas Longhorns after the team’s offensive slump over the last few games, leading his squad to victory over a high-ranked team, Ole Miss, on Saturday. His fourth-quarter rushing touchdown put Texas ahead for good, but not many believe the quarterback will stay in Austin for long.
During Bleacher Report CFB, former Cincinnati Bengals linebacker and Georgia Bulldogs legend David Pollack said he believes Arch Manning will leave Texas after this season.
“Unless this turns around crazy, Arch ain’t gonna be there next year,” Pollack said. “I don’t think he’ll be in Texas. I think Arch will be excited and as long as Sark (head coach Steve Sarkisian) will be there, it will probably be an amicable split.”
As for where he thinks Manning will go should he actually leave Texas, the former linebacker noted that somebody told him that he was surprised Arch Manning did not end up in Georgia. However, he admitted that he would still be surprised if the quarterback did end up with the Bulldogs.
The rumors came as Steve Sarkisian gave Arch Manning fewer first-team reps after their loss to Florida last week. The coach also gave backup QB KJ Lacey Jr. more first-team reps, signaling that he may be planning to bench Manning should the quarterback continue to struggle, as he did against Tennessee, Oklahoma and Florida.
While Texas got the win over Ole Miss, Arch Manning may have become even more vulnerable, especially from the blind side. Star left tackle Trevor Goosby suffered a season-ending knee injury, which means Manning just lost his best blind-side protection for the rest of the season.
Goosby is currently considered the top NFL prospect at left tackle, so his season-ending injury is a big blow for Texas, which has struggled to defend Manning well, with him getting sacked twice against Ole Miss and five times against Florida.
