Oman have qualified for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 qualifier after securing fourth place in the League 2 despite losing seven matches in a row.
Going into the final match of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2, Oman were on a six-match losing streak and faced the risk of missing out on direct qualification. Ahead of the clash with the UAE, they were level on 33 points with Namibia, who had completed their 36-match campaign, but held a superior net run rate of -0.202 compared to Namibia's -0.278. It meant that Oman needed to avoid a defeat by more than 130 runs to stay ahead of them.
The NRR came to their rescue in their final match, where they lost by 42 runs while chasing 227 against the UAE. However, Oman managed to finish fourth and secure their place in the 2027 World Cup Qualifier.
Namibia, the co-hosts of the next ODI World Cup, had a strong start to League 2 with four wins in five games but found themselves with plenty of catching up to do after losing 16 of the next 18 ODIs. They managed to win four of the final six matches, but it proved insufficient in the end.
Earlier, the USA, Scotland and the Netherlands had confirmed their qualifier spots by finishing in the top four. The remaining four League 2 teams - Namibia, Nepal, the UAE, and Canada will now have to go through the Qualifier Play-off, where they will be joined by the top two teams from the Challenge League.
