Warriors collapse late in 111-108 loss to Grizzlies, fall to 0-2

With 3:47 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Golden State Warriors looked to be on their way to their first win of the 2026-27 season. De'Anthony Melton just drilled a 3-pointer to give the Warriors a 12 point lead over the Memphis Grizzlies with under four minutes remaining. The Warriors would then fail to score until one second was remaining in the game with Yaxel Lendeborg free throws.

While the Warriors' offense went ice cold, the Grizzlies took advantage, ending the game on a 17-2 run, stealing a 111-108 victory and sending fans at Chase Center home stunned. Sitting at 0-2 to start the season, the Warriors will now open a three-game road trip, starting with the second leg of a back-to-back on Saturday against the Phoenix Suns.

In the fourth quarter, Jaylen Wells tallied eight points for the Grizzlies, while Ty Jerome and rookie Cameron Boozer each notched six points. De'Anthony Melton was the only Warriors to registered six points in the final frame. The Warriors shot 6-of-21 from the field and 4-of-14 from long distance in the final 12 minutes. In the fourth quarter, Steph Curry tallied just three points on 1-of-6 shooting from the floor.

Jerome, continued his strong start to the season, scoring a game-high 25 points on 11-of-22 shooting. Jerome is coming off a career-high 45 points on opening night against the Utah Jazz. Boozer added 25 points and 13 rebounds in 37 minutes against the Warriors.

Lendeborg also notched a double-double, tallying 18 points, 13 rebounds and six assists in 38 minutes in his second game in the association. Curry quietly led the Warriors with 24 points on 5-of-15 shooting from the field and 3-of-10 shooting from long distance. Curry found success getting to the line, hitting all 11 attempts from the free throw line.

Despite their collapse down the stretch, the Warriors will have to have a quick memory, with the second leg of a back-to-back set for Saturday in Phoenix. The Warriors will open a three-game road trip on Saturday against the Suns, tipping off at 7 p.m. PT.
