Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury meet in six weeks, and four-division world champion Roy Jones Jr has offered his thoughts on Joshua’s chances in the fight.
Excitement for one of the most talked-about heavyweight contests in boxing history is continuing to build, even though fans may recognise that the outcome of Fury-Joshua may not be the same in December as it would have been when both were at their best just a few years ago.
Speaking to iFL TV, Jones Jr declared that, at this point in their careers, the fight will go one of two ways and that Joshua’s best chance of coming out on top is by trying to take ‘The Gypsy King’ out.
“I am really not slipping towards one or the other. I like both guys, I am both guys’ fan. I think that both of them have done boxing a lot of great wonders, a lot of great things and have given boxing a lot of great nights.
“One thing about Fury is that he has always been that guy who always seems to be able to figure things out. So, I know that he is good at figuring things out, and you have got to lean towards him on that but, at the same time, AJ has the power to take him out.
“So, somebody is either going to get figured out, or somebody is going to take somebody out.
“If it is a ‘take-out’, I think that AJ takes him out, but if it is a ‘figure-out’, then I think that Fury figures him out.”
Fury-Joshua takes place at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Friday, December 11. Both men will be looking to become a three-time heavyweight champion with the WBA (super) title reportedly set be on the line.
