Dolphins first-round pick discusses his mind-boggling mistake

In the second quarter of the Miami Dolphins' Week 8 matchup against the New England Patriots, Drake Maye was set up with a fourth-and-2 at Miami's 42-yard line with just over five minutes remaining.

When Maye snapped the ball, Dolphins cornerback Chris Johnson came screaming off the edge and was set to blast Maye for a sack and possibly a forced fumble. However, Johnson whiffed on the play and fell to the turf, allowing Maye to complete a strike to wide receiver Efton Chism that kept the drive alive.

Speaking to the media in the locker room on Wednesday, Johnson discussed the play.

"Yeah, you know, just a bad play overall, obviously," Johnson said. "That's a play that I feel like I like myself making that play 10 out of 10 (times). Obviously, I didn't make it. You know, like you said, I moved on. It is what it is. You know, It's unfortunate what happened, but, I got to move on, and I'm on to a new week."

The rookie, who has been performed pretty well considering everything he's been asked to do this year, said he's seen the film of the play several times.

"(I've seen it) a lot, you know, and some, I don't even want to watch it. I'm just seeing it all over the place," Johnson told reporters. "But I feel like it's just, it's a good reminder. I don't enjoy seeing it. It's an embarrassing play, but at the end of the day, I feel like it's a reminder to me what happens when you mess up in a big moment. So, I can't wait to get on the field to make it up."

What's the teaching point for a mistake like this one?

"Yeah, really just keep being myself," Johnson said. "Obviously, I feel like it's an out of character play. I feel like I haven't really shown, you know, that kind of stuff on tape to this point, obviously. But, really just maintain being myself, understand I'm here for a reason a bad play that doesn't determine me as a player."
