The Seattle Seahawks were dominated on Monday Night Football, losing 34-17 to the Chicago Bears in Week 8. It was the second-worst loss of the Mike Macdonald era. Somewhat lost in the aftershock is that Quenton Nelson made his Seahawks debut following last week's blockbuster trade with the Indianapolis Colts.
Nelson started at left guard, with sophomore Grey Zabel moving to right guard to ensure Nelson's comfort. The former Notre Dame standout struggled somewhat. He was his usual and reliable self in pass protection, allowing one pressure and zero sacks. He was whistled for a penalty though.
Pro Football Focus assigned Nelson a run-blocking grade of 92.6. That's his highest run-blocking score of the season. It's somewhat tough to agree with that though, given the Seahawks only rushed for 81 yards (and allowed 126). Jadarian Price averaged 2.9 yards per carry and Zach Charbonnet didn't fare much better, averaging 3.8. The Seahawks did not generate rushing lanes.
Nelson and the entire Seahawks' offensive line were dominated by a new-look Bears defensive line that debuted Jeffery Simmons. Nelson should be an asset, but it looked like it'll take time. He and the entire offensive line has to be significantly better moving forward.
