Manchester United players feeling toward Michael Carrick revealed

Manchester United’s players appeared to have downed tools, but BBC Sport has revealed how they really feel about Michael Carrick.

Manchester United have never been short of strong personalities capable of shaping what happens inside the dressing room.

From Roy Keane’s uncompromising leadership to the influence of players such as Wayne Rooney, the club’s biggest figures have often helped determine how a difficult period unfolds.

That influence becomes particularly important when results begin to test the relationship between players and their manager.

At Old Trafford, performances are judged against a history of winning trophies, not simply competing for a place near the top of the table.

The demands are even greater when the players themselves are struggling to produce the intensity supporters expect.

United’s latest home defeat has therefore raised questions that extend beyond the result itself.

Manchester United players have expressed a collective desire to turn things around under Michael Carrick, despite the growing scrutiny surrounding the manager following their 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth, according to the BBC.

One player reportedly told the BBC, “The feeling is that we all want to put it right. Players, staff, everyone.”

The comments suggest there is still a willingness within the club to address the situation together.

However, it remains unclear whether captain Bruno Fernandes is among those backing Carrick.

United’s defeat at Old Trafford was followed by boos from supporters, while Michael Carrick received cheers as he made his way down the tunnel.

Fernandes questioned the manager’s approach after United’s 4-1 defeat to Como, raising concerns about the decision not to press opponents man-to-man and the lack of pressure applied to the opposition.

Lisandro Martinez has also publicly criticised the club’s hierarchy, including Jason Wilcox, over the summer recruitment strategy following a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid.

There is also a statistical concern behind United’s recent struggles.

United rank 18th among the 20 clubs for distance covered in the 2026/27 season, averaging 103.08 kilometres per 90 minutes.

The figure raises further questions about the team’s work rate, particularly as Carrick looks for a response on the pitch.

The reported desire to put things right offers a sign of unity.

Whether that translates into improved performances and results will ultimately determine how much longer Carrick can count on that support.
