Ibrahim Mbaye makes European impact as Aston Villa maintain Champions League winning run

Ibrahim Mbaye provided an assist on his first European start for Aston Villa as they beat Viking FK 3-1 at Villa Park on Wednesday evening.

The 18-year-old Senegal international started on the left side of Aston Villa’s attack and made an immediate impression with his pace, technical ability and willingness to take on defenders.

Mbaye helped Aston Villa establish control during the first half, with his delivery proving decisive for the opening goal.

Mbaye creates opener for Barkley

The breakthrough came in the 23rd minute when Mbaye sent a corner towards the near post. Ross Barkley met the cross with a header and guided the ball past the Viking FK goalkeeper to put Aston Villa ahead.

The assist highlighted the young winger’s quality from set-pieces and his awareness of where to place the ball. Given the opportunity to start in the Champions League, Mbaye made a direct contribution to Aston Villa’s first goal.

The hosts continued to press after taking the lead and eventually secured a 3-1 victory over the Norwegian side.

The result gives Aston Villa a third consecutive win in the league phase of the Champions League and strengthens the club’s progress in the competition.

Mbaye’s performance was also significant beyond the result. At 18, he continues to gain exposure at European level and showed he can make an impact when selected for an important fixture.

His starting role and assist demonstrated his ability to take advantage of an opportunity and meet the demands of a major competition. The Senegal winger’s performance adds to the growing attention surrounding his development at Aston Villa.

For Senegal, Mbaye’s display offers another reason for encouragement as one of the country’s young attacking players continues to make his presence felt in Europe.

His latest contribution ensures that his Champions League campaign has begun positively, while Aston Villa can look ahead after extending their winning sequence in the league phase.
