Onana hospitalised, discharged after car accident in Turkey

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana was taken to hospital for medical checks following a car accident in Turkey but was later discharged after the results came back clear.

The Cameroon international was reportedly involved in the incident on Thursday evening, shortly after Trabzonspor’s 2-0 victory over Hearts in the UEFA Conference League.

According to reports, Onana’s vehicle was rear-ended by another car, while images from the scene appeared to show debris scattered around the vehicles involved in the collision.

The goalkeeper was taken to hospital as a precaution for medical examinations. He was subsequently discharged after the checks reportedly found no problems.

Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan confirmed the incident and provided an update on the player’s condition.

“Andre Onana was involved in a road traffic accident earlier this evening. There are no problems with him, and we wish him a speedy recovery,” Dogan said, as reported by GOAL.

Onana impresses at Trabzonspor

The incident comes as Onana continues to make an encouraging start to his loan spell at Trabzonspor, where he is spending a second temporary stint away from Manchester United.

The 30-year-old started Thursday’s match against Hearts, helping the Turkish side secure a 2-0 victory in the European competition.

The result followed Trabzonspor’s 4-2 win over Finnish side KuPS, extending the club’s positive run of performances.

Onana has also recorded four clean sheets in five games for the Turkish club, underlining his contribution since returning to the side.

Trabzonspor have enjoyed a productive spell in recent weeks, including victories over Turkish rivals Besiktas and Galatasaray by an aggregate score of 6-0.

The club are scheduled to face Rizespor in their next league fixture on Monday, although Onana’s participation will depend on his recovery and any further medical assessment considered necessary after the accident.

Manchester United future remains uncertain

Onana joined Manchester United from Italian club Inter Milan in the summer of 2023 for a reported £43.8 million.

However, the goalkeeper experienced inconsistent periods during his time at Old Trafford, with his performances attracting scrutiny as the club sought greater stability in goal.

His position came under further pressure following the arrival of goalkeeper Senne Lammens, contributing to the circumstances surrounding his temporary move to Trabzonspor.

During his previous spell at Manchester United, Onana made 42 appearances and kept six clean sheets, according to the figures provided in reports about his career.

His return to Trabzonspor has offered signs of improved form, with the goalkeeper already recording four clean sheets in five matches.

The Turkish club will hope to maintain their recent momentum as the season progresses, while Onana will be looking to continue his performances after recovering from the road accident.

Although the available update indicates that he was discharged following medical checks, his condition and readiness for the next fixture remain the immediate considerations following the incident.
