Liverpool v Arsenal: Premier League meeting forecast to end in an entertaining 2-2 draw

Liverpool and Arsenal meet in one of the headline fixtures of the ninth round of the Premier League on Sunday, 1 November, with the visitors regarded as the bookmakers’ favourites.

Liverpool have collected 15 points from their opening eight league matches. Andoni Iraola’s side have won four of those games, drawn three and suffered one defeat, leaving them fourth in the Premier League table.

The Merseyside club’s wider recent record is also strong, with only one defeat in their past 14 matches. They will now face an Arsenal side looking to respond after a setback in their most recent game.

Arsenal’s title position

Arsenal moved level with Manchester City on 21 points after the leaders dropped points in the previous round. However, Mikel Arteta’s team remain second because of their inferior goal difference.

The Gunners have won seven of their eight Premier League matches this season and lost only once. Their latest defeat ended a run of five successive matches without losing.

Arsenal were also unexpectedly beaten by Fleetwood Town earlier in the campaign, a result that sent them out of the League Cup. The London club will therefore be seeking an immediate reaction against Liverpool.

The two teams have a long history of competitive meetings. Their previous encounters total 249 matches, with Liverpool recording 96 victories and Arsenal winning 83. The remaining 70 fixtures ended in draws.

Liverpool will take confidence from their consistency over the past 14 matches, while Arsenal’s superior league record has earned them favouritism before Sunday’s game.

Prediction

The match is expected to produce an open and chance-filled contest. Liverpool and Arsenal are predicted to score twice each, resulting in a 2-2 draw and a share of the points.
