Real Madrid welcome RB Leipzig to the Santiago-Bernabeu on Wednesday, 21 October, with Yan Diomande set to come up against his former club in the UEFA Champions League.
The match is the third game of the league phase and kicks off at 19:00 GMT, or 21:00 in Spain. Real Madrid are aiming to maintain their perfect record in the competition and strengthen their position among the leading teams.
Jose Mourinho’s side go into the fixture after a dramatic 4-3 victory over AS Roma in their previous European outing. They followed that result with a 4-1 win against Sevilla FC in La Liga.
Real Madrid will look to continue that momentum in front of their home supporters, although the game comes only three days before their Clasico against FC Barcelona. They will also need to guard against a Leipzig side capable of exploiting any space left by the hosts.
The fixture carries particular significance for Diomande. The Cote d’Ivoire international winger officially joined Real Madrid in August 2026 after leaving RB Leipzig, signing a contract with the Spanish club until 30 June 2033.
The 19-year-old has been included in the squad for the game and will therefore face his former employers for the first time in Real Madrid colours. He is regarded as one of the African players to watch in this European contest.
RB Leipzig arrive in Madrid looking to build on their first European victory of the season, a 1-0 success against PSV Eindhoven. Their preparations have, however, been affected by a heavy 6-1 Bundesliga defeat by Bayern Munich.
Marco Rose’s team will need to show greater defensive resilience and improve their efficiency if they are to take a positive result from the Santiago-Bernabeu against Real Madrid’s formidable attack.
