Liameed regains consciousness after injury in Spain

Former Nigeria U-20 midfielder Quadri Liameed is in stable condition following a frightening head injury sustained while playing for CE Sabadell in Spain’s Segunda League.

Liameed reportedly lost consciousness for approximately 30 seconds after being struck in the head by an opponent’s kick during the encounter.

He is reportedly  receiving medical attention and is expected to undergo a Buffalo Concussion Bike Test (BCBT) within the next 48 hours as part of his recovery assessment.

His mentor and father, Hajji Gafar, expressed relief over the encouraging reports from the Spanish medical team and disclosed plans to travel to Spain within the next 10 days to support his son.

“My son is now in a stable condition and is expected to undergo a Buffalo Concussion Bike Test (BCBT) within the next 48 hours. The Spanish medical team attending to him gave me some encouraging  news yesterday, and I am relieved and grateful,” he said.

“I also intend to travel to Spain within the next 10 days to personally see Quadri, spend some time with him and support him through this recovery process.”

Liameed developed through the Nigerian youth football system under coaches Manu Garba, Nduka Ugbade and Ladan Bosso.

He subsequently won a silver medal with the Flying Eagles at the 2019 African Games in Rabat, Morocco, under coach Paul Aigbogun.

The midfielder has spent the last five years pursuing his professional career in Spain.

His former club, 36 Lion Football Club, alongside the Lagos State and Nigerian football communities, have expressed their best wishes for his speedy recovery.
