Bye bye: “World-class” Liverpool player may now not see out the season at Anfield

Federico Chiesa’s Liverpool career has been disappointing overall, and it looks as though he could depart when the January transfer window arrives.

The likeable Italian winger has been a bit part player under both Arne Slot and Andoni Iraola at Anfield, with form and fitness working against him.

A Liverpool exit in the near future feels inevitable, with former scout Mick Brown claiming the writing is on the wall for the 29-year-old come next year:

“It’s been clear for quite a while now that Federico Chiesa doesn’t have much of a future at Liverpool. He hasn’t been a regular starter there under any of the managers he’s played under, and I don’t think that’s going to change now because Andoni Iraola doesn’t rate him either.

“He’s obviously had this injury at the start of the season which hasn’t helped, but if the manager can’t see him in training, how is he supposed to get a good impression? It might not be the player’s fault, the timing is unfortunate, but ultimately that’s the way these things can go sometimes.”

Now, a report from Flashscore‘s Dean Jones again claims that a Liverpool exit in January “is looking like a possibility” currently, and a return to his homeland of Italy “could provide an attractive solution” for both Chiesa and the Reds.

Federico Chiesa must leave Liverpool to suit all parties

Chiesa is a popular figure at Liverpool, both among his Reds teammates and the supporters, but it is clear at this point that he has no future at the club.

The Italy international has never got going at Anfield since arriving from Juventus in the summer of 2024, despite some important goals here and there, and it was a relatively cheap gamble that hasn’t paid off.

Chiesa has been called “world-class” by Alessandro Pierini in the past, and while he can still be a big threat on his day, it is extremely rare these days.

He must look to seal a move away from Liverpool in January, and returning to Italy feels like a logical next step, allowing him to potentially shine in Serie A, which is slower and less physical than the Premier League.
