Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has admitted that Brazilian wonderkid Estevao has given him a welcomed selection headache following an eye-catching display on his first Premier League start of the season.

The teenager’s impressive performance provided a reminder of the raw talent available to the Blues as they secured a victory highlighted by a brilliant solo goal from Morgan Rogers.

The 19-year-old winger made the most of his opportunity in the starting lineup, constantly posing a threat to the opposition defense throughout the match.

Although he unluckily had two goals ruled out for offside, Estevao’s sharpness, direct running, and vision allowed him to create several clear-cut scoring opportunities for his teammates.

Speaking after the final whistle, Alonso praised the teenage sensation for forcing his way into contention through hard work and competitive fire rather than frustration over limited minutes earlier in the campaign.

“He’s given me reasons (to pick him),” Alonso explained when discussing Estevao’s performance.

“This is football and sometimes you don’t get what you want, but the best way to show it is not by being angry, it’s by being competitive, and Este has done it really well.”

Estevao’s bright display adds further depth and dynamic attacking options to Alonso’s squad as Chelsea navigate a congested fixture schedule. With players stepping up and competing for starting spots, the manager will now face tough decisions when selecting his frontline in upcoming matches.
