After playing his part in a scintillating second-half display that blew Lille away last week at the Champions League clash, Eberechi Eze expressed his excitement at playing in Arsenal when the team are on song.
Arsenal put the Ligue 1 side to the sword with three goals in seven minutes at Emirates Stadium to cruise to a 3-0 success, making it two wins from two in the Champions League this term.
Ebs got on the scoresheet himself for the first time this campaign, sandwiched between fine strikes from Jurrien Timber and Bukayo Saka, and he smiled when asked to describe what it feels like to play in our attack when everything clicks and we produce excellent football.
“It’s fun!” he laughed. “You know that opportunities are coming all over the place, so you’ve just got to be ready, be in the right places, be in the right spaces to get on the end of stuff. It’s a fun team to play in!
“It was an enjoyable performance from all of us. We dominated the game, and we enjoy winning, so that’s the main thing.
“I always want to play, always want to score, and that’s the mentality – I’ll keep pushing and keep working.”
While the scoreline eventually reflected our dominance, we were made to work hard for the three points by Les Douges, who held firm for an hour before eventually finding the breakthrough.
With the game goalless at the break, Ebere revealed that Mikel Arteta didn’t want to change too much, feeling like we would get our rewards eventually.
That proved true, with the triple introduction of Kai Havertz, Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka adding extra firepower to put the result beyond doubt, and set us up nicely for a trip to Bayern Munich next week.
When asked what the message at the interval was, Ebs suggested: “I think it was just more of the same. There were slight details that we obviously tweaked and changed to give us a bit more dominance, but it was more of the same.
“We were doing a lot in the first half as well, and I think the players that came on as well really helped us to push on. That was an important impact.
“[Playing big clubs like Bayern] is always fun. It’s always something you want to be doing, you want to be competing, so for sure, I’ll enjoy that when it comes.”
