U-23 AFCONQ: Foreign professionals hit Olympic Eagles camp ahead of DR Congo clash

The foreign-based players invited to the Olympic Eagles camp are expected to join the team this weekend following the unimpressive performance of the home-based players in a friendly match against Remo Stars.

The Olympic Eagles were held to a goalless draw by the Nigeria National League, NNL, side on Sunday.

Among the foreign-based players expected to link up with the team are Abdullahi Bewene of Banik Ostrava, Czech Republic; Peter Edokpolor of Benfica, Portugal; Isaac James of Alverca, Portugal; and Abdullahi Umar of Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic.

The team opened camp two weeks ago in preparation for the 2027 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations second-round qualifying tie against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

DR Congo will host the first leg at the TP Mazembe Stadium in Lubumbashi on Friday, November 13, while the return leg is scheduled to take place in Ikenne four days later.

The winner of the two-legged encounter will advance to the third-round playoffs, scheduled for March 2027.
