Doncaster win piles pressure on Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen

Owen Bailey’s brace earned Doncaster a 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday to pile the pressure on Owls boss Henrik Pedersen.

Rovers dominated the first half with Bailey getting them off to an ideal start when he hooked in from a corner after just six minutes.

The advantage was doubled in the 16th minute when Isaac Hutchinson found Bailey with a low ball from the byline and the Rovers skipper swept home from 10 yards.

Hakeeb Adelakun stabbed wide after racing onto a long ball while Leon Ayinde almost caught Wednesday goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer out with a chip as Rovers looked to add to their tally.

The Owls offered a greater threat after the break but found Doncaster goalkeeper Tommy Simkin in imperious form.

The Stoke loanee made a string of excellent saves to deny Barry Bannan, Ali Al-Hamadi and substitute Mason Burstow.

Bailey was close to securing his hat-trick in the latter stages but saw a header pushed away by Maynard-Brewer.

The threat petered out from Wednesday who were booed off by their large travelling support at full-time.
