Liverpool’s defeat to Arsenal shouldn’t detract from what has been an encouraging start under Andoni Iraola. It did though offer a reminder that there is plenty of work still to be done by the Spaniard.
The Reds gave as good as they got against the defending Premier League champions, and they weren’t helped by some questionable calls from the referee and VAR. Nevertheless, it was something of a wake-up call after recent talk of a potential title challenge.
That already looks like it might be out of reach this season, but there will still be plenty for Iraola and his team to play for. They may need some new additions when the January transfer window opens though.
Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.
Fabrizio Romano has dismissed rumors linking Trent Alexander-Arnold with a move back to Liverpool, describing recent speculation as “completely out of the mark”.
Alexander-Arnold has seen his name being touted for a return to Anfield after struggling to make his way into Jose Mourinho’s team at Real Madrid this season, although he did get the nod to start against Racing Santander on Sunday.
His lack of game time though has seen rumors grow of a move back to his boyhood club, with a number of pundits talking up the prospect, but Romano insists Liverpool has not had any conversations about re-signing Alexander-Arnold, while the right-back is not planning on leaving the Bernabeu in January.
Get Liverpool's new 2026/27 home kit
Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
Liverpool.com says: We'll see how things pan out, and whether Sunday's start against Santander might actually be the beginning of a run in the Madrid side for Alexander-Arnold. It still doesn't feel like a match made in heaven with him and Mourinho though.
If he became available, it would only make sense for Liverpool to take a look at him. A January move does seem unlikely though.
Liverpool is ready to make a $56 million (€50M) offer for Lamine Camara in January, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.
Chelsea is said to be prioritizing a move for Bournemouth’s Alex Scott instead, which would leave the door open for Liverpool to go after Camara. The Blues saw their attempt to land the Monaco midfielder fall through on deadline day during the summer.
The report also claims that talks between the parties will begin in the coming weeks, with Liverpool looking to get a deal done in the New Year.
