Man United handed major injury blow with Liverpool clash on horizon

Manchester United has been handed yet another blow, as summer signing Carlos Baleba is now an injury concern for the club, with a clash against Liverpool now on the horizon.

The two old rivals are set to meet at Anfield at the end of the month, with an international break set to separate the sides, where plenty could happen during the two-week break.

For the Reds, they head into the clash after a relatively positive start to life under Andoni Iraola, with the Spaniard finding a way to implement his own principles of play alongside the required pragmatism to get the most out of his squad.

With just two defeats suffered across all competitions so far, there is some belief that Liverpool can build back towards a team that can challenge for the top honors again, whether that is in domestic competitions or in Europe.

The summer also brought about something of a fresh start for United, which appointed Michael Carrick as manager. However, with just one win in the Premier League heading towards the second international break, pressure has continued to build on his position at the club.

It's unclear whether the former midfielder will be in the dugout come the match later this month, with the international break offering potential breathing room for the Red Devils hierarchy to make a decision one way or the other.

It seems as though almost anything that could go wrong for the head coach, has gone wrong in recent weeks. Whether it's poor luck with some slips at key moments, terrible decision-making from individuals, or some overall poor defending when it really counts.

If things couldn't be even more challenging for the Red Devils, then there is a major injury scare for the team before facing off with Liverpool in the coming weeks. Baleba, who joined the club from Brighton in the summer, picked up what appeared to be a painful hamstring injury during his side's clash with Roma.

Shortly after the half-time break, the midfielder drove with the ball into the box, and pulled up right in front of goal, going to ground and then eventually limping off the pitch.

With that match a few weeks away, it's unclear whether the Cameroonian international will be able to recover in time to feature, but it comes as another major scare for the team at the wrong time.

That comes as a blow for both Carrick and Baleba, who had already missed the start of the campaign through an ankle injury he suffered during pre-season. With the midfield balance coming into question, his possible absence may only cause more problems for the side moving forward.

Liverpool's own midfield has some potential concerns in the lead up to that match, with Ryan Gravenberch suffering a heel injury before the clash with Fenerbahce. Iraola suggested that the star could feature against Crystal Palace at the weekend, though, with the issue being monitored on a day-to-day basis.

It remains to be seen what could change over the next few weeks, before Liverpool hosts Manchester United, in what could be a different looking match with each passing day.
