RZ Pellets Wolfsberg and Rene Renner have parted ways by mutual consent following a disciplinary incident in the team dressing room, sport.ORF.at reported. The decision leaves the Admiral Bundesliga club without their 33-year-old left-fielder as the squad anchors the bottom of the league table.
The parting of ways stems from an incident that occurred behind closed doors following Wolfsberg’s 3-0 defeat away to SCR Altach on October 11. According to reporting from the Kronen Zeitung, the veteran defender committed a disciplinary breach in the locker room that forced the club’s hand. “We couldn’t avoid a suspension,” manager Thomas Silberberger said regarding the fallout. The player missed Wolfsberg’s subsequent 2-0 loss to WSG Tirol as internal discussions regarding his future took shape.
Renner arrived at the Lavanttal Arena in the summer of 2025 after a spell with Thai club Buriram United, quickly establishing himself as a regular starter under the coaching staff. Prior to his overseas adventure, the Upper Austrian built an extensive domestic resume with stints at SV Mattersburg and LASK. His exit deals a heavy blow to a Wolfsberg squad mired in a severe sporting crisis, having picked up just two points from their last eight league fixtures to slide to the foot of the standings.
Wolfsberg travels to face TSV Egger Glas Hartberg on Saturday as the club attempts to arrest its alarming slide without the services of the departed left-fielder.
