Harry Kane reveals Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany is ‘on the mend’

Kane was crowned Bayern’s first recipient of the prestigious award by France Football since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge claimed Ballon d’Or success in 1981.

It provided a welcome boost to club manager Kompany, who collapsed at training on Friday after a recent bout of illness and has been ordered to rest.

However, ahead of Kane’s special night at London Palladium, Kompany phoned England’s captain.

After Kane paid tribute to Kompany in his victory speech on stage, later after the ceremony had finish, he said: “Yeah, he actually phoned me (Monday) morning, phoned me bright and early at 9am and I was just out of bed thankfully.

“He just wanted to wish me all the best and good luck. I asked him how he was doing. He said he feels good and feels like he is on the mend, so I know he is the type of character that just wants to be back with the team already, out on the training field, out on the bench with us but it’s important that he rests.

“He’s been going through a bit of a tough time with his health recently. The staff can cover it when he’s not there, but yeah looking forward to going back to Munich to see him, to see all the staff, all my team-mates.

“I have spoke about how this is theirs as much as ours so to celebrate with them a little bit, it will be special.”

Kane’s 61-goal haul for Bayern Munich last season, along with 12 strikes for England, helped the 33-year-old win the award on Monday night.

A new deal to extend Harry Kane ‘s stay with Bayern Munich is expected to be finalised soon (Adam Davy/PA).

A new contract to extend Kane’s stay in Germany is set to be finalised soon and thoughts of trying to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League record are far from his mind.

“Not at the moment, not right now, I’m loving life in Munich,” Kane insisted, when asked about the possibility of a return to the Premier League.

“Bayern is such a great club, we have an amazing team, a great coach, so yeah right now that is where my focus is and I am extremely happy to be winning awards like this.

“It shows why I made the move in the first place. Of course there is always ambition, always dreams and new things.

“I’ve learnt you don’t have much of a say, you just have to go with the flow and see where it takes you.”
