More than 1,500 athletes filled the grounds in Dénia as the municipal sports schools officially launched the 2026–2027 season, overcoming a weather interruption that had sidelined the original schedule just days prior.
The official presentation ceremony finally moved forward on Sunday, October 25. Organizers had been forced to postpone the initial gathering, which was originally scheduled for the previous week, due to severe impacts from a DANA storm.
Emergency repair work on municipal sports venues allowed local officials to clear the facilities in time for the rescheduled weekend event. Families, coaching staff, local sports clubs, and the registered athletes gathered for the occasion. While competitive calendar conflicts kept several teams away from the venue in person, a traditional parade marched on, showcasing representatives from a broad spectrum of athletic disciplines.
The new campaign deploys a schedule stretching across fourteen distinct programs. The roster includes football, indoor football (fútbol sala), basketball, handball, volleyball, track and field, rhythmic gymnastics, rugby, padel tennis, climbing, badminton, chess, Valencian pelota, and adaptive sports, operating alongside local competitive leagues.
This year also brings the debut of a new introductory initiative. Titled Multiesport, the program is built specifically for children aged six to nine, giving young participants space to explore various athletic activities through play-based exercises.
Festivities on Sunday featured dance performances delivered by participants from the youth organization Llunàtics, culminating in a large group photograph of the attending athletes.
Addressing the crowd during the ceremony, Sports Councilor Valen Alcalà pointed to the foundational role of sports in fostering learning and social coexistence among youth. Alcalà extended public thanks to the participating clubs, families, technical staff, and municipal workers, singling out the students and faculty of the IES Chabàs vocational training program for direct, hands-on assistance in restoring the storm-damaged facilities.
