Alberto Núñez Feijóo declared that Spain should withdraw from organizing the 2030 FIFA World Cup if the country does not host the tournament’s final match. The leader of the Partido Popular and candidate for prime minister issued the ultimatum during an appearance on the television program El Chiringuito, entering the fierce political and sporting battle over where the decisive match will take place.

Spain shares the hosting rights for the 2030 tournament alongside Portugal and Morocco. FIFA has not yet announced a definitive venue decision, though inspection visits to candidate cities and stadiums in all three countries are scheduled for November and December.

Three Arguments for The Decisive Match

“First, because Spain is capable of organizing any sports event; second, because Spain, along with Portugal, were the first to begin the organization and then Morocco was invited; and third, because Spain is the world champion and the biggest power in the world,” he stated during the program.

Spanish soccer officials share a similar ambition regarding the venue. Rafael Louzán, president of the Real Federación Española de Fútbol, has pressed for the final to be played at either the Santiago Bernabéu or the Spotify Camp Nou. Meanwhile, Morocco is actively pushing the candidacy of the Gran Estadio Hassan II, a venue currently under construction near Casablanca.

FIFA Delays Final Stadium Selection Timeline

FIFA governing bodies maintain final authority over tournament logistics and stadium assignments. Despite the ongoing venue lobbying by domestic political and sports figures, FIFA has released no formal timeline indicating when the host stadium for the final will be officially selected.
