Vincent Kompany, the Bayern Munich head coach, has been taken to hospital after reportedly collapsing during training on Friday.
The former Manchester City captain, who has reportedly been nursing a virus, was coaching his team before feeling unwell and being rushed to hospital. Bild reported that a rescue helicopter had landed at Bayern’s training ground.
Kompany was present at Bayern’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday, but before the game assistant coach Aaron Danks explained that the Belgian had been feeling pain in his legs because of a virus.
“It has affected his legs at times and he’s felt some pain,” Danks said when he took Kompany’s place at Bayern’s pre-match news conference on Tuesday.
“It’s just a virus. The doctors, the experts, know way more than I do. The most important thing we’ve just encouraged is that he rests, he takes the time he needs, whatever that may be, however long that may be. Getting Vince to rest is a challenge.”
The Bundesliga leaders will play away at Freiburg on Sunday.
The club have been approached for a comment.
