Stephen Curry faces an uncertain future with the Golden State Warriors following a frustrating offseason, prompting prominent NBA analysts to speculate about a blockbuster trade sending the legendary guard to the San Antonio Spurs, according to reports by Le10Sport.

Golden State Offseason Missteps Frustrate Stephen Curry

The Warriors enter a challenging period after missing out on marquee targets during free agency. Golden State pursued LeBron James heavily over the summer, only to watch the four-year MVP opt to join the Philadelphia 76ers in pursuit of another championship opportunity. By focusing their efforts entirely on James, the Warriors missed chances to strengthen the rest of their roster before the primary free agency window closed.

This inactivity has left Stephen Curry visibly discontented as he enters the twilight of his career. According to Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic, the 38-year-old guard wants a genuine chance to make a deep playoff run. Thompson reported that Curry is delaying his contract extension talks, using his future free agency status to pressure the Golden State front office into constructing a competitive roster.

Injury Concerns and Ownership Vision Cloud Warriors Future

Compounding Curry’s frustration is the uncertain health profile supporting the current roster. Golden State must rely on players returning from significant injuries, including Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody, alongside Kristaps Porzingis, whose career has been repeatedly disrupted by physical setbacks.

Meanwhile, the long-term vision of Warriors owner Joe Lacob appears to be shifting. Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard reported that Lacob is actively considering how the franchise will operate during the post-Curry era. Kawakami noted that Lacob is deeply invested in demonstrating that the organization can sustain success beyond Curry’s tenure, even if the immediate on-court product risks a temporary decline.

Bill Simmons and National Media Propose San Antonio Landing Spot

With Curry seeking championship contention and Golden State potentially eyeing a transition phase, analysts have begun mapping out theoretical exit strategies. Speaking on his podcast via The Ringer, insider Bill Simmons outlined a scenario where the San Antonio Spurs utilize their young talent and draft capital to acquire the four-time NBA champion.

Simmons suggested that San Antonio could package guard De’Aaron Fox alongside future draft selections to pry Curry away from the Bay Area for the final years of his career. Yahoo  Sports echoed this framework, detailing a specific trade structure that would send Fox and Carter Bryant to the Warriors alongside San Antonio’s premier 2030 first-round pick, a 2031 first-rounder, and second-round selections in 2029 and 2030.

San Antonio Roster Context Surrounding Victor Wembanyama

The Spurs present a uniquely compelling destination following a strong campaign last season. San Antonio anchors its future around Victor Wembanyama, who continues to develop into one of the league’s most dominant forces. The roster also features high-profile young talent, including 2024 Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle and 2025 second overall draft selection Dylan Harper, complemented by veteran free-agent addition Tobias Harris.

Pairing Curry’s historic perimeter shooting with Wembanyama’s unmatched floor-spacing and vertical gravity would instantly position San Antonio as a premier championship contender in the Western Conference. Whether the Spurs front office moves beyond speculation to initiate formal trade discussions remains undetermined.
