EPL: Tottenham hands Chelsea first home loss of season

Tottenham scored two second half goals to hand ten man Chelsea a 2-0 defeat in their EPL match at the Stamford Bridge.

A Mike Penders own goal and Mathys Tel brilliant solo goal secured all three points for Roberto de Zerbi’s Tottenham as two expensively-assembled teams met in the London derby.

Chelsea were missing the injured duo of striker Joao Pedro, and goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez who had surgery on a broken jaw. He was replaced by Penders who produced excellent saves to deny Omar Marmoush and Tel in the first half.

However, the Belgian’s error handed Spurs the initiative when he punched a corner kick into his own net.

Cole Palmer then lost his head with two poor challenges that led to two cautions and a red card, leaving Chelsea with ten players.

Tottenham pounced on the advantage as Chelsea went in search of an equalizer, Tel picked up the ball in his own half and went on a mazy run that ended with an unstoppable low drive into the net to seal the 2-0 win.

Victory is Tottenham’s second in five days- a second win of the season- and the club’s first consecutive league wins since May.

They win at Chelsea for the first time since April 2018, and Tottenham rose to 12th place with nine points after eight matches.

Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea remain in fourth place with 13 points.
