Diogo Dalot has insisted everyone at Manchester United should be feeling under pressure following the club’s disappointing start to the campaign.
The Portuguese defender believes responsibility for the team’s struggles should not rest solely on head coach Michael Carrick, with players also needing to improve.
United ended a nine-game winless run on Tuesday after producing an impressive comeback to defeat Roma 3-2 in the Champions League.
However, the victory came after a difficult period that left the Red Devils 17th in the Premier League, narrowly above the relegation places on goal difference.
Speaking after the Roma victory, Dalot stressed that everyone connected with the club must accept responsibility for their performances.
“Not just the manager, everyone is under pressure,” said Dalot.
“I mean, when you don’t win games for this football club, every moment, every person, everyone involved gets under pressure, and we felt it obviously, because we’re not near good enough of what we should have done.”
The defender admitted the difficult period had been challenging, particularly after several disappointing performances.
“These moments are really tough, I’m not going to lie,” he added.
“Unfortunately, I’ve had a few moments like this in the past, and the only way for us to get out is by winning football games. I think that’s the only way you can get confidence.”
According to ESPN, Dalot believes the comeback against Roma could provide the confidence United need to improve their results.
“Nights like this can change momentum, can change seasons, and I think this win is going to give us confidence for the next games,” he said.
United now turn their attention to Aston Villa’s visit to Old Trafford on Sunday, with Carrick urging his players to build on their European victory.
