President Cyril Ramaphosa has praised the Premier Soccer League (PSL), describing it as the best-organised football competition on the African continent and recognising its ability to bring happiness to millions of supporters.

Ramaphosa made the remarks during a meeting with PSL chairman Dr Irvin Khoza and Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung at the league’s offices. The engagement brought together three influential figures in South African football to discuss the importance of the professional game.

The president commended the PSL for its impressive organisation and its contribution to the country's sporting culture. He highlighted how football continues to unite communities and provide entertainment to millions of South Africans.

The league features some of the country's most popular clubs, including Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns. Their matches attract passionate supporters to stadiums while drawing large television audiences across the country.

Beyond entertainment, the PSL plays an important role in developing local football talent. Its competitions provide a platform for players to showcase their abilities, build professional careers and potentially attract interest from international clubs.

Khoza has been instrumental in overseeing the league's administration, while Motaung remains a key figure in the development of South African football through his leadership at Kaizer Chiefs.

Ramaphosa's comments underline the PSL's importance in the country's sporting landscape, particularly its ability to maintain strong supporter interest through fierce rivalries and competitive football.

The president's recognition also highlights the league's growing significance beyond South Africa's borders, as domestic football continues to attract attention across the continent.
