Zwane Refuses To Call Himself A Legend And Reveals The Player He Looks Up To Most

According to AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane, the late John "Shoes" Moshoeu is the greatest football legend of all time. Zwane says that Moshoeu was an inspiration to players and fans alike due to his leadership, dedication, and stellar play for Bafana Bafana.

The current issue of Soccer Laduma has an interview with Zwane, in which he questions the widespread usage of the term "legend" in South African football. The coach said he did not deserve the honour because he thought other people had made a bigger difference, even if he had accomplished a lot as a player.

Moshoeu stands out to Zwane due to the impact he made both on the club and international stages. During their time together as teammates and champions under the late Ted Dumitru, they shared a locker room at Kaizer Chiefs.

Zwane likened Moshoeu's effect on the clubs he played for to that of football greats like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, contrasting the two.

Among them are superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. You can still see their radiant glow wherever they play. Their influence is pervasive. That is legendary. Zwane told Soccer Laduma that this is why John 'Shoes' Moshoeu would forever be his favourite legend.

He thought back on Moshoeu's time at Giant Blackpool, his stint at Kaizer Chiefs before Turks recruited him, and the impact he had on the national squad.

Zwane praised the veteran midfielder for his professionalism during his late-career comeback to Chiefs. He said that Moshoeu was in his mid- to late-thirties when he kept training hard and set a good example.

During our training, he set a great example for us to follow. "I wanted to be that example as well, and I respect such," Zwane said.

Thanks to his talent and service to his country, Moshoeu rose to prominence as one of South Africa's most revered footballers. In evaluating a player's legacy, Zwane focuses less on reputation and more on impact and consistency, as seen in his remarks.

Donald "Ace" Khuse is another player whom the AmaZulu coach regards with admiration. Zwane was impressed by Khuse's influence on South African football during his time playing for Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Kaizer Chiefs.

Zwane still uses Moshoeu as an example of a genuine legend of the game.
