Orlando Pirates Announce Starting XI Against African Stars

JUST IN: Orlando Pirates Confirm Starting XI Against African Stars as Ouaddou Targets CAF Champions League Progression

Orlando Pirates have confirmed their starting line-up for their crucial CAF Champions League second preliminary round second-leg encounter against Namibian champions African Stars at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Friday evening.

The Buccaneers head into the decisive encounter with a narrow 1-0 advantage following their victory in the first leg in Gaborone, Botswana, last weekend. Tshepang Moremi scored the decisive goal in the 75th minute, giving the Soweto giants an important advantage ahead of the return fixture.

Orlando Pirates Starting XI: Sipho Chaine, Thabiso Zulu, Lebone Seema, Bulelani Sigomoshe, Nkosikhona Ndaba, Thalente Mbatha, Mthetheli Selepe, Thapelo Mokobodi, Simphiwe Masilela, Tshepang Moremi and Evidence Makgopa.

The selection reflects the technical team's determination to complete the job at home and avoid another disappointing early elimination from Africa's premier club competition.

Pirates will be particularly keen to make their home advantage count after enduring a difficult experience at this stage of the competition last season. The Buccaneers have the quality and experience to progress, but they must remain disciplined against an African Stars side that will arrive in Johannesburg determined to overturn the deficit.

A victory or a draw would be enough to send the South African giants through to the next round. However, African Stars could force the tie into a penalty shootout if they win 1-0, while a victory by two clear goals would see the Namibian outfit progress on aggregate.

The Buccaneers will therefore need to balance their attacking ambitions with defensive responsibility. An early goal could place additional pressure on their opponents, but conceding first would make the contest significantly more complicated.

Moremi's contribution in the first leg underlined his importance to Pirates' attacking plans. The winger will once again be expected to provide pace, creativity and a goal threat, while the midfield will have a crucial role in controlling possession and limiting African Stars' opportunities.

Head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has previously warned against complacency, stressing that qualification must be earned over both legs. His message will be especially important as Pirates look to satisfy their supporters and re-establish themselves among the leading contenders on the continent.

African Stars, meanwhile, have an opportunity to make history by reaching the CAF Champions League group stage for the first time. They will need an organised performance and clinical finishing to threaten Pirates' advantage.

The encounter is scheduled for Friday evening at the Orlando Amstel Arena, with kick-off set for 20:00 South African time.

For Pirates, the objective is clear: deliver a convincing performance, protect their advantage and take another important step towards continental success.
