Kaizer Chiefs have bolstered their attacking lineup with the official signing of Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana. The move puts an end to several months of intense transfer speculation surrounding the 27-year-old international. His arrival marks another step in head coach Fernando Da Cruz’s ongoing efforts to reshape the Soweto giants into a sharper and more competitive unit.
Mokwana, who was born in KwaMhlanga in Mpumalanga, returns to domestic football as a free agent following a mutually agreed departure from North African powerhouse Espérance Sportive de Tunis. His journey to the top of South African football began during a successful stint with Sekhukhune United, where his high-energy performances in the Premiership caught the eye of talent scouts across the continent.
That form earned him a high-profile move to Tunisia in August 2024. During his time with Espérance,Mokwana proved his worth at the highest level, recording seven goals and four assists across 38 appearances while helping the club secure a domestic double in the 2024/25 season. He later gained further international experience through a loan spell with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hazem, where he featured regularly in 24 league matches.
By securing his signature without a transfer fee, Kaizer Chiefs have acquired a proven attacking threat who brings speed, tactical flexibility, and top-tier experience to Naturena. Da Cruz now has an additional weapon capable of breaking down dense defensive structures, using Mokwana's direct running style and dribbling skills to unlock space on the wings.
For Mokwana, the return to South Africa offers a fresh platform to solidify his spot in the national team setup.Having already represented Bafana Bafana and featured at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, consistent playing time in Soweto will be vital for maintaining his position under national team management. Fans of the club will be eager to see how quickly he adapts to the team's system as Chiefs continue their pursuit of silverware this season.
