Gomora United’s leading striker Tiklas Thutlwa has caught the attention of clubs both in South Africa and abroad, with his agent confirming that talks are already under way.
The 27-year-old forward has started the Motsepe Foundation Championship season in outstanding form. He currently tops the scoring charts with eight goals from just seven matches. In his last two outings he scored twice in each game — first in a 2-1 win over Upington City and then again in a 3-2 defeat to Cape Town City. His sharp finishing has made him one of the standout attackers in the second tier this season.
Agent Lebohang Mashishi told iDiski Times that several clubs have shown interest. “There’s clubs that were talking locally and outside, particularly Middle East,” Mashishi said. He confirmed that discussions with interested teams are ongoing as they look to secure Thutlwa’s services.
Thutlwa’s current run of goals comes after a difficult period in his career. He suffered a serious leg injury while on loan at Venda FC, which kept him out of action for the entire 2024/25 season and the first half of the 2025/26 campaign. After recovering, he joined Gomora United in January this year following his departure from Sekhukhune United. He quickly made an impact, scoring eight goals in 10 appearances during the second half of last season.
Gomora United head coach Patrick Phungwayo has previously spoken about Thutlwa’s high ambitions. The striker has told his coach he wants to return to the Betway Premiership and one day challenge the scoring records set by former Kaizer Chiefs star Collins Mbesuma. His strong form this season has put those goals within reach and also increased interest from bigger clubs.
Thutlwa’s journey has taken him through several clubs, including Black Leopards and Sekhukhune United, before his latest move to the newly promoted Gauteng side. His ability to score regularly after a long injury layoff has impressed many observers in South African football.
With eight goals already this season and interest confirmed from local and Middle Eastern clubs, Thutlwa looks set to be one of the names closely watched in the transfer market. Whether he stays to help Gomora United push for promotion or moves on to a new challenge remains to be seen, but his performances have clearly put him back in the spotlight.
