Former Pirates Star Explains Why Club Should Not Rush Into Extending Sibisi's Contract

Orlando Pirates have been advised against rushing into offering experienced defender Nkosinathi Sibisi a new contract, despite growing expectations that the centre-back could extend his stay at the Soweto giants beyond his current agreement.

A former Orlando Pirates player believes the Buccaneers are likely to retain Sibisi's services but insists that the club should take its time before making a final decision. According to this view, there is no immediate need for management to enter contract negotiations, as the remainder of the campaign could provide a better opportunity to assess the defender's value to the team.

Since joining Orlando Pirates, Sibisi has established himself as an important figure in the club's defensive department. His experience, leadership and composure have made him a dependable option, particularly in matches where defensive organisation and concentration are crucial.

The defender has also demonstrated his ability to organise the backline, communicate effectively with his teammates and help younger players develop within the squad. These qualities have contributed to his importance beyond his individual performances on the pitch.

However, the former Buccaneers player believes that past contributions should not be the only consideration when deciding whether to offer a footballer a new contract. Pirates must also examine Sibisi's current performances, fitness levels, consistency and ability to meet the club's future ambitions.

Waiting until later in the season would allow the technical team and management to make a more informed assessment before committing to another contract. It would also give Sibisi an opportunity to strengthen his case through consistent performances.

Pirates have several important competitions to contest, and maintaining defensive stability will be essential to their ambitions of winning silverware.

Although Sibisi remains an experienced and valuable member of the squad, the club has been encouraged to prioritise careful planning over sentiment. His future at Orlando Pirates could therefore become clearer as the season progresses.
