Newly appointed Lamontville Golden Arrows head coach Mandla Ncikazi has expressed his appreciation to Orlando Pirates following his departure from the Soweto-based club, acknowledging the important role the team played in his growth and development as a football coach.
Ncikazi's exit from Orlando Pirates was confirmed on Thursday, October 22, 2026, ending more than five years of service with the Premier Soccer League giants. His departure marks the beginning of a new chapter as he returns to Golden Arrows, where he is expected to lead the team through a challenging period.
The experienced coach takes over from Pitso Dladla following changes to the club's technical team. Speaking through Golden Arrows' media platforms, Ncikazi reflected on his time at Pirates and stressed the importance of maintaining positive relationships with former employers.
"It is predestination, and sometimes it helps. They say, 'Isihlahla asinyelwa (Don't burn your bridges).' I wouldn't have this opportunity if I were not the person that I am. Hence, I'm still grateful to my previous employers \[Orlando Pirates\] for the opportunity and growth, and the words of wisdom," Ncikazi said.
His remarks demonstrate that he remains appreciative of the experience and guidance he received at Pirates, despite moving on to another coaching position in the Betway Premiership.
Ncikazi also thanked Golden Arrows chairlady Mato Madlala for trusting him with the responsibility of leading the club again.
"I'm also grateful to our chairlady \[Mato Madlala\] for thinking about my name when she needed a coach," he added.
The coach has pledged to work towards improving the team's performances and delivering better results for supporters.
"I'll do my best to try and improve the product. I'm confident that we will be better than what we were yesterday," he said.
During his time at Orlando Pirates, Ncikazi was part of the technical team that secured nine trophies, making his spell at the club a significant period in his coaching career. Pirates chairman Dr Irvin Khoza also thanked him for his contribution and supported his decision to pursue another head coaching opportunity.
His return to Golden Arrows brings valuable experience to the KwaZulu-Natal side, having previously helped the club achieve a fourth-place finish in the 2020/21 league campaign.
Ncikazi now faces the task of improving the team's fortunes after a difficult run of matches. He has expressed confidence in the younger players, praising their willingness to learn and adapt to new ideas.
As he settles into his new role, the coach will be expected to turn that enthusiasm into consistent performances and stronger results. His message reflects gratitude towards those who contributed to his journey, while making it clear that his immediate focus is helping Golden Arrows progress.
