Pitso Mosimane Names 38-Man Bafana Squad for Kenya Qualifiers as New Faces Feature

According to reports, Pitso Mosimane, the head coach of Bafana Bafana, has chosen 38 players for consideration in front of South Africa's November qualifying matches against Kenya for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027.After returning to the coaching role, Mosimane will have a wide range of options as he continues to shape the national team thanks to the preliminary selection. Those on the provisional list will still need to confirm their spots for the qualifications because the final team is anticipated to be smaller.

The pick includes a number of well-known players, such as attacker Iqraam Rayners, Orlando Pirates forward Oswin Appollis, Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane, and captain and custodian Ronwen Williams.

Lyle Foster, Relebohile Mofokeng, Teboho Mokoena, Thapelo Morena, Cassius Mailula, and Luther Singh are among the other players mentioned. The group also includes younger players and foreign-based football players, which illustrates the coach's variety of possibilities.

Along with players affiliated with teams in Europe and the US, the clubs represented include Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. These include Mbekezeli Mbokazi of Chicago Fire in the United States, Luke Le Roux of Cercle Brugge in Belgium, Ime Okon of Hannover 96 in Germany, and Sphephelo Sithole of Tondela in Portugal.

Puso Dithejane of the Chicago Fire, Lebone Seema of the Orlando Pirates, and Brooklyn Poggenpoel of Durban City—players who have drawn notice during Mosimane's rebuilding of the national team—are also included in the list.

Prior to the nation's AFCON 2027 qualification campaign, Mosimane's return to Bafana Bafana was announced in September 2026. In addition to managing the national team in the past, the coach had significant club success, including winning the CAF Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly.

South Africa's attempts to qualify for the continental championship will depend on the results of the next qualifiers. Together with Uganda and Tanzania, Kenya is co-hosting AFCON 2027, and their performance in the finals influences their group's qualification road.

For the time being, the 38-man roster is not the final matchday squad, but rather a preliminary selection. As Mosimane gets Bafana Bafana ready for the November games, focus will shift to which players make the cut.
