Yanga Make Shock Coaching Move! Sead Ramovic Returns As Manqoba Mngqithi’s Replacement Ahead Of CAF Champions League Battle
Tanzanian football giants Young Africans SC, popularly known as Yanga, have confirmed the return of Serbian coach Sead Ramovic as they prepare for a demanding CAF Champions League campaign, bringing another unexpected twist to South African coach Manqoba Mngqithi’s short spell at the club.
Ramovic returns to the Jangwani-based outfit after Yanga decided to part ways with Mngqithi, who was dismissed alongside fitness coach Tshephang “Chyna” Mokaila on 24 October 2026.
The decision represents a significant change in direction for the Tanzanian champions, who are determined to strengthen their technical leadership before the Champions League group-stage campaign gets underway.
According to reports, the club’s decision to bring Ramovic back is closely connected to the difficulty of the group they have been drawn into. Yanga have been placed in Group B alongside Egyptian giants Zamalek, Algeria’s MC Alger and Tunisia’s Club Africain.
It is a demanding assignment featuring clubs with considerable continental experience, and Yanga’s leadership appears keen to have a coach familiar with the club guiding the team through the challenge.
Ramovic is not a completely new face at the Tanzanian club. His previous association with Yanga means he understands the expectations, pressure and ambitions surrounding one of the country's biggest football institutions.
The Serbian coach is expected to bring familiarity and experience as the club prepares to face some of Africa’s established sides.
His immediate responsibility will be to organise the squad, establish his preferred tactical approach and ensure that Yanga remain competitive in both domestic football and continental competition.
The return also raises expectations among supporters who will want to see whether the familiar coach can provide the stability the club is seeking.
Mngqithi’s departure is particularly interesting considering that he achieved one of Yanga’s major objectives by guiding the team into the CAF Champions League group stage.
Under the South African coach, Yanga defeated Botswana’s Gaborone United 3-2 on aggregate before producing an impressive 8-1 aggregate victory over Madagascar’s CFFA.
However, domestic results reportedly became a major concern for the club's leadership. A 2-1 defeat to rivals Simba SC on 10 October was followed by a goalless draw against TRA United on 24 October.
Those results left Yanga five points behind league leaders Simba, increasing pressure on the technical team.
Interestingly, Mngqithi reportedly recorded 10 victories, two draws and only one defeat across 13 competitive matches before his dismissal.
Yanga’s Champions League group will require consistency, tactical discipline and strong performances against experienced opponents.
Zamalek, MC Alger and Club Africain will all present different challenges, making the group-stage campaign an important examination of the Tanzanian champions’ continental ambitions.
For Ramovic, the opportunity comes with considerable responsibility. He must quickly build momentum and convince supporters that the decision to bring him back can deliver the desired results.
