Marawa Reveals What Happened Between Komphela and Wiliete’s Coach

Steve Komphela Breaks Silence on Heated Clash With Wiliete Coach Beto Bianchi Amid Racism and Spitting Allegations

Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach Steve Komphela has reportedly revealed the circumstances surrounding his controversial confrontation with Wiliete SC head coach Beto Bianchi following their CAF Champions League encounter in Angola.

The incident took place after Sundowns were held to a goalless draw by the Angolan side in the first leg of their CAF Champions League qualifying fixture on Sunday, 18 October 2026.

The confrontation quickly became a major talking point, especially after reports surfaced that Bianchi had required hospital treatment following the altercation.

Speaking during his Marawa Sports Worldwide programme, renowned sports presenter Robert Marawa disclosed details of a conversation he reportedly had with Komphela about the incident.

According to Marawa, the Sundowns assistant coach claimed that the confrontation was sparked by alleged racial remarks, offensive language and disrespectful behaviour directed towards him.

Komphela reportedly explained that he understood the Portuguese insults allegedly used against him and felt that the situation had gone beyond an acceptable level of disagreement.

Marawa further revealed that Komphela accused Bianchi of spitting at him during the exchange, an allegation that reportedly intensified the already heated situation.

The confrontation allegedly occurred near the stadium tunnel while Komphela was overseeing additional training sessions for Sundowns players who had received limited playing time during the match.

According to the account shared by Marawa, Komphela admitted that he became angry during the incident but insisted that his reaction followed what he considered serious provocation.

However, the allegations remain unverified, and Komphela's explanation represents only one version of the events surrounding the confrontation.

Meanwhile, Wiliete SC vice-president Vitorino Lunga Vicele strongly criticised the alleged physical confrontation involving the club's head coach.

Vicele reportedly indicated that Wiliete were considering taking the matter to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the relevant authorities in Angola.

He also confirmed reports that Bianchi had received medical treatment following the incident and was recovering.

There have also been suggestions that Mamelodi Sundowns officials offered an apology to Wiliete following the confrontation, although the details of any official communication between the clubs have not been fully established.

The controversy has raised questions about professional conduct and discipline in African club football, particularly during high-pressure continental competitions.

With allegations of racism, verbal abuse, spitting and physical aggression now surrounding the incident, attention may turn to CAF and the relevant authorities to determine whether further investigation or disciplinary measures are necessary.

For now, the exact circumstances of the confrontation remain disputed, with no conclusive findings or confirmed disciplinary sanctions announced.
