McCoist Reveals His Advice to Makhanya Amid Growing Interest From Other Clubs

Rangers legend Ally McCoist has delivered important advice to South African defender Olwethu Makhanya, urging him to remain at Ibrox and avoid rushing into another transfer despite growing attention surrounding his performances in Scotland. The former Rangers striker believes the 22-year-old should concentrate on establishing himself at the club before considering opportunities elsewhere, especially with the possibility of attracting interest from English Premier League teams.

Makhanya has enjoyed an encouraging start to life at Rangers, where his performances have started attracting attention. His progress has placed him under the spotlight, with the possibility of a move to the English Premier League becoming an interesting talking point as he continues to develop his career in European football.

However, McCoist believes that leaving Rangers too soon could be the wrong decision for the young defender. According to the club legend, Makhanya still has plenty to achieve at Ibrox and should take advantage of the opportunity to establish himself before thinking about his next career move.

Speaking to talkSPORT Bet Online Casino, McCoist agreed with Pat Nevin's assessment of the situation and explained why he would encourage the South African to remain in Scotland.

"I don't think Makhanya should be in any rush to go anywhere," McCoist said.

The former Rangers striker acknowledged that the defender has made a very good start but also warned that playing for Rangers comes with serious expectations. He pointed out that Makhanya's recent experience should remind him that there are no easy matches, particularly as opponents become more aware of his strengths and begin treating him as a player they need to stop.

"He's had a very good start, though the weekend was maybe a little reminder that you don't get any easy games and you're a target," he added.

McCoist also recognised that Makhanya's performances are likely to attract attention from other clubs. Nevertheless, he believes that the defender should not allow outside interest to distract him from his responsibilities at Rangers.

He explained that his advice would be for Makhanya to remain at Ibrox for a while, continue performing well and build on the positive reputation he is developing.

"But I would be advising him to stay for a while, get the job done, keep getting rave reports, and see where it takes him," McCoist continued.

The advice carries particular significance because McCoist is one of the most respected figures in Rangers' history. His experience at the club gives his comments considerable weight, especially when discussing the challenges young players face while trying to establish themselves at Ibrox.

For Makhanya, the immediate priority will be to maintain his performances and become an important member of the Rangers team. Although the prospect of playing in the English Premier League could be attractive, proving himself consistently in Scotland could put him in an even stronger position when bigger opportunities eventually arrive.

South African football supporters will certainly be watching his progress closely as he continues his European journey.
