AmaZulu FC strengthened their hold on third place in the Betway Premiership after a 1-0 victory over KwaZulu-Natal rivals Golden Arrows on Saturday evening. The result keeps Usuthu in a strong position early in the season as they continue to challenge the traditional big clubs.

The match, played as a local derby, was settled by a goal from Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya in the 65th minute. Ngwenya’s strike proved decisive in a contest where both sides worked hard for the points. AmaZulu controlled enough of the game to secure the three points, while Golden Arrows pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages but could not find a way through.

The win lifts AmaZulu to 22 points from nine matches, placing them firmly in third on the log. They sit just behind Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, who occupy the top two spots. For Usuthu, the result is important because it maintains their momentum after a promising start to the campaign. Supporters will hope the side can stay consistent and keep pressure on the leaders as the season progresses.

Ngwenya’s goal also keeps him among the leading scorers in the league. His form has been a key factor in AmaZulu’s strong showing this season. The striker’s ability to deliver in important matches gives the team an extra edge, especially in tight games against local rivals.

Golden Arrows, meanwhile, remain in the lower half of the table after the defeat. The loss means they still have work to do if they want to climb the standings and move away from the danger zone later in the season. Derby matches often carry extra intensity, and both sets of players showed commitment throughout the 90 minutes.

For AmaZulu, the focus now turns to maintaining their position near the top. A third-place finish at this stage of the season would be a solid achievement and could open doors for continental competition if they can sustain their current form. The team will need to stay disciplined in defence and clinical in attack in the coming fixtures.

The victory over Golden Arrows is a timely boost for Usuthu. It shows they can grind out results when it matters and compete with confidence against familiar opponents. As the Betway Premiership continues, AmaZulu’s supporters will be watching closely to see if their side can keep cementing their place among the league’s top teams.
