Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya, a striker for AmaZulu FC, is allegedly interested in a transfer to Naturena, and rumours have it that Kaizer Chiefs are getting ready to make another move for him during the January 2027 transfer window.
Ngwenya has supposedly surfaced as a possible target for Chiefs' pursuit of offensive alternatives to bolster for the remainder of the season. On the other hand, if AmaZulu continues to act reluctantly when approached by interested teams, their pursuit might become more difficult.
Despite rumours of interest from Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, two other notable South African teams, the allegations state that Ngwenya would rather join the Soweto giants.
The club may find some encouragement in the striker's stated preference for Chiefs as it evaluates its transfer plan. But just because a player wants to join another team doesn't mean he will, especially if he and his present club can't come to an agreement.
Reportedly, AmaZulu would not even talk to Chiefs, Sundowns, or Pirates about the attacker potentially leaving the club. Should that situation not alter, the teams who are interested in signing him may have a hard time doing so during the next transfer window.
Kaizer Chiefs may be able to increase their offensive depth and overall competitiveness in domestic tournaments by acquiring a second striker. The standing of AmaZulu, the player's contract, and the clubs' ability to negotiate are all variables that might affect the likelihood of a transaction.
Thus, Chiefs may place a premium on the January transfer window as they evaluate potential new team members.
Official statements from Naturena or AmaZulu have not independently validated the claimed interest, Ngwenya's stated choice, or AmaZulu's stance.
For the time being, fans will have to hold tight till we hear more about Chiefs' plans to formally offer and AmaZulu's willingness to contemplate a move.
Speculation over Ngwenya's future persists in the lead-up to January 2027.
