South African coach Simo Dladla continued his impressive start as interim coach of Young Africans SC after guiding the Tanzanian giants to a convincing 4-0 victory over Kagera Sugar FC in the Tanzanian Premier League on Sunday.
The victory was Dladla's second consecutive win since being handed the responsibility of leading the club following the departure of former head coach Manqoba Mngqithi. The South African tactician has made a positive start to his temporary role and will be hoping to maintain the team's good form as they compete in domestic and continental competitions.
Dladla initially joined Young Africans as part of Mngqithi's backroom technical staff. However, after Mngqithi's departure, the club decided to give him the opportunity to take charge of the team as interim coach.
He now has the responsibility of keeping one of Tanzania's biggest football clubs competitive while they continue their campaign on different fronts. His latest result will certainly provide encouragement as he looks to establish himself in the position.
Young Africans produced a strong performance against Kagera Sugar, scoring four goals and keeping a clean sheet in front of their supporters.
Mamelodi Sundowns legend Peter Shalulile opened the scoring in the 27th minute. The Namibian striker continued his good form after finding the back of the net for the second consecutive match. His latest goal also took his tally for the season to six, showing the important role he continues to play in the team's attack.
Young Africans did not take long to increase their advantage. Mohamed Hussein scored in the 33rd minute to make it 2-0 and put the home side in a comfortable position before the half-time break.
Kagera Sugar struggled to find a way back into the match as Dladla's team maintained their advantage. The hosts continued pushing forward and eventually added two more goals during the closing stages.
Cheikh Toure scored the third goal in the 88th minute before completing his brace in the 90th minute. His two late goals put the result beyond doubt and confirmed a convincing 4-0 victory for Young Africans.
The three points were also important for the club's position in the league standings. Young Africans have now moved within two points of their rivals Simba SC, who are currently top of the table with 18 points. However, Dladla's team have played one match more.
Simba remain the only side yet to suffer defeat this season. They have won all six of their league matches, maintaining a perfect winning record.
This means Young Africans still have work to do if they want to overtake their rivals and move to the top of the standings.
For Dladla, back-to-back victories represent an encouraging beginning to his interim spell. The South African coach will now be focused on maintaining this momentum, improving the team's performances and keeping Young Africans firmly involved in the race for domestic honours.
