Former Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe has returned to competitive football by joining a team in the Hollywoodbets Regional League, marking a new chapter in his career after a lengthy period away from the sport. The move offers the experienced player an opportunity to regain his fitness, work on his match sharpness, and play regularly after struggling to find a professional club following his departure from the top flight.
Sithebe first gained widespread recognition during his successful spell with AmaZulu, where his tireless work rate and tactical awareness in the midfield made him an integral part of the squad. His consistent performances eventually earned him a high-profile transfer to Kaizer Chiefs in 2022. However, his time at Naturena did not go entirely to plan. He faced strong competition for starting positions, struggled with injuries, and found it difficult to maintain a regular spot in the team during two seasons with the Soweto giants. After his contract expired in 2024, he moved to Richards Bay in search of regular playing time, but subsequently spent more than a year without a professional club.
Being without a team is a challenging experience for any athlete, especially someone who has played at the highest level of South African football in front of massive crowds. Stepping down to the regional league provides a practical platform for Sithebe to stay active and enjoy the game while he works to rebuild his form. While it remains to be seen whether this move will lead to another opportunity in the Premier Soccer League, his decision to keep playing shows his ongoing dedication to football. Fans who remember his contributions in the top flight will be watching to see how his experience benefits his new teammates and whether he can work his way back up the competitive ladder.
