Kaizer Motaung Jr Breaks Silence on Manqoba Mngqithi Links to Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr has firmly denied reports suggesting that the club has held behind-the-scenes discussions with Manqoba Mngqithi about a possible move to Naturena.

Speculation surrounding Mngqithi emerged following his reported departure from Tanzanian club Young Africans, with rumours linking the experienced South African coach to the Soweto giants.

Reports by Innocent Mkhize, known on social media as @InnocentKhabz, claimed that discussions between Chiefs and Mngqithi were already taking place. The reports also suggested that Mngqithi was not interested in retaining the club's current technical team should he take charge.

However, Motaung Jr has rejected the claims, responding directly when asked about the alleged discussions.

“Completely lies,” Motaung Jr said.

His response has added another dimension to the speculation surrounding Chiefs' coaching situation, particularly as supporters continue to debate the team's direction and prospects under current head coach Fernando Da Cruz.

Chiefs recently reaffirmed their support for Da Cruz and his technical team, signalling that the club remains publicly committed to its current coaching structure.

The reported links to Mngqithi had raised questions about whether the club could consider making a technical change following mixed performances. However, Motaung Jr's denial provides a clear public response to the claims of ongoing negotiations.

Mngqithi is an experienced coach in South African football, having previously worked with Mamelodi Sundowns and AmaZulu. His coaching record and familiarity with the Premier Soccer League have frequently made him a subject of discussion whenever vacancies or uncertainty arise at major clubs.

Nevertheless, the claims about discussions with Chiefs remain disputed. While Mkhize reported that talks were taking place, Motaung Jr has categorically denied the allegations, and no independently verified evidence has established that negotiations occurred.

For now, Chiefs' publicly stated position remains one of support for Da Cruz and his technical team. Whether the speculation surrounding Mngqithi continues will depend on further credible information emerging about the club's coaching plans.
