Mamelodi Sundowns Lead the Way With 13 Players in Bafana Bafana Preliminary Squad for AFCON Qualifie

Mamelodi Sundowns have once again demonstrated their strong influence on South African football after 13 of their players were named in the preliminary Bafana Bafana squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Kenya in November.

The inclusion of 13 Masandawana players makes the Pretoria-based club the most represented team in the preliminary squad, highlighting the depth of talent available at the club and the quality of players competing for places in the national team.

For Sundowns supporters, the announcement is another reason to celebrate, as several of the club's established stars and attacking talents have received recognition for their performances. Their inclusion also reflects the important role that domestic clubs play in supplying players for the national team.

In the goalkeeping department, Sundowns are represented by Ronwen Williams and Ricardo Goss. Both goalkeepers bring valuable experience, giving Bafana Bafana options as the technical team assesses its choices ahead of the qualifiers.

The defensive department features five Sundowns players: Aubrey Modiba, Thapelo Morena, Fawaaz Basadien, Thabang Matuludi and Khulumani Ndamane. Their inclusion gives the national team several options across the backline, with the players expected to compete for places in the final squad.

In midfield, Bathusi Aubaas and Teboho Mokoena have been included. Mokoena, in particular, has established himself as an important figure in South African football, while Aubaas provides another option as the national team prepares for its upcoming challenges.

Sundowns also have a strong presence in attack, with Cassius Mailula, Iqraam Rayners, Themba Zwane and Tashreeq Matthews receiving preliminary call-ups. Their attacking qualities could prove valuable as Bafana Bafana look to create scoring opportunities and secure positive results against Kenya.

The high number of Sundowns players included in the preliminary squad reflects the club's continued investment in assembling a competitive team. Their regular participation in domestic and continental competitions also gives their players opportunities to gain experience at a high level.

However, being named in the preliminary squad does not automatically guarantee a place in the final selection. The players will still need to make the most of their opportunities as the national team prepares for the qualifiers.

For now, Sundowns can take pride in having 13 representatives in the preliminary squad, while Bafana Bafana will be focused on preparing for two important encounters against Kenya.

Masandawana supporters, are you surprised that Sundowns have 13 players in the preliminary Bafana Bafana squad?
