Ncikazi Explains Why Bafana-Linked Mbanjwa Is Still Waiting at Golden Arrows

Golden Arrows head coach Mandla Ncikazi has explained why goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa has yet to feature for the club despite earning a preliminary Bafana Bafana call-up.

Mbanjwa arrived at Golden Arrows with expectations of competing for a regular place in the starting XI. However, the goalkeeper has struggled to get an opportunity since joining the Durban-based outfit, with another shot-stopper currently holding down the position.

Speaking about the goalkeeping situation, Ncikazi made it clear that he sees no reason to change his selection while the current first-choice goalkeeper continues to perform well.

"Don't fix if it's not broken. Mbanjwa is a top goalkeeper but if the other one is doing well, unfortunately he has to wait," Ncikazi explained.

The coach's comments suggest that Mbanjwa's absence is not necessarily a reflection of his ability or quality but rather the competition for places within the squad.

For a goalkeeper, regular playing time is particularly important, especially when competing for national team recognition. However, Ncikazi appears determined to maintain stability between the posts rather than make changes simply to accommodate a new arrival.

Mbanjwa's preliminary Bafana Bafana call-up is also an indication that his performances and potential have attracted attention at national level. Nevertheless, earning a place in a preliminary squad does not automatically guarantee selection for the final team.

The situation presents a challenge for the goalkeeper, who will have to remain patient and take advantage of any opportunity that comes his way.

Ncikazi's position is understandable from a coaching perspective. Changing a goalkeeper who is performing consistently can introduce unnecessary uncertainty into a team's defensive structure.

However, Mbanjwa will undoubtedly be eager to demonstrate his quality and push for a starting position as the season progresses.

For now, the Golden Arrows coach has made his position clear: performance remains the deciding factor, and Mbanjwa will have to wait for his opportunity.
