Wiliete SC head coach Beto Bianchi has applauded his players after the Angolan club eliminated Mamelodi Sundowns from the CAF Champions League on Friday night, describing the result as a memorable achievement.

Sundowns entered the competition as defending champions and were widely regarded as one of Africa’s leading football clubs. However, Wiliete SC produced a determined performance to bring the South African side’s title defence to an unexpected end.

Reacting to the result, Bianchi expressed pride in his squad, acknowledging the significance of defeating a team with Sundowns’ experience and reputation in continental football.

The coach’s reaction reflected the scale of the achievement, with the victory marking an important moment for Wiliete SC as they seek to establish themselves more firmly in African competitions.

Overcoming an established opponent such as Sundowns requires organisation, teamwork and concentration, particularly when competing in a high-pressure continental fixture. Wiliete’s performance demonstrated the team’s determination to challenge a more experienced opponent and take advantage of its opportunities.

The result is expected to provide a confidence boost for Bianchi and his players as they prepare for the next stage of their campaign.

For Sundowns, meanwhile, the elimination represents a significant setback after entering the tournament with ambitions of retaining their continental title. The club will now have to review its performance and turn its attention to other competitions.

Wiliete SC’s achievement has placed the Angolan side in the spotlight, while Bianchi’s praise highlights the collective effort behind the unexpected outcome.
