Sharks Confirm Major Manie Libbok Signing as Springbok Flyhalf Set for Durban Return in 2027

The Hollywoodbets Sharks have officially confirmed the signing of Springbok flyhalf Manie Libbok, securing a major addition to their squad ahead of the 2027 rugby season.

Libbok will return to Durban in July 2027 after completing his commitments with Japanese club Hanazono Kintetsu Liners. He has agreed to a multi-year contract with the Sharks as head coach JP Pietersen continues to strengthen his squad and build a new era at the franchise.

The 29-year-old’s return represents a significant coup for the Durban-based side, particularly given his experience at international and club level. The World Cup-winning playmaker has earned 34 Test caps for South Africa and is widely recognised for his creativity, attacking instincts and ability to unlock opposition defences.

Libbok previously had a brief spell with the Sharks during the 2020/21 season before moving to the Stormers, where his career reached another level. He became a central figure in the Cape side's backline and played an influential role in their historic 2021/22 United Rugby Championship title triumph.

His return is expected to provide Pietersen with an experienced playmaker capable of directing the Sharks' attacking game while also helping develop the club's emerging talents.

Pietersen expressed excitement about the signing, describing Libbok as a game-changer and playmaker whose qualities perfectly match the style of rugby he wants his team to produce.

The coach also highlighted the flyhalf's hunger and willingness to contribute to the club's long-term ambitions, adding that his experience and attitude could positively influence younger players.

Libbok, meanwhile, said he was excited to return to Durban and become part of the Sharks' plans. He explained that discussions with Pietersen convinced him that something special was developing at the club.

Sharks chief executive Shaun Bryans also welcomed the signing, saying it demonstrated the organisation's ambition to attract top-quality players and build a team capable of competing for major trophies.

The signing strengthens the Sharks' preparations for the future and gives supporters another reason to look forward to the club's ambitions under Pietersen.
